人類活動造成的非有意引進物種以空前的速度增加，一旦這些引入物種定居下來，它們幾乎不可能被根除。因此，確定和監測入侵物種更容易定居並形成新種群的地域就非常重要。

張潤誌研究員領導的外來物種鑒定與控製研究組，利用我國2008年以前發現的166種以農林有害生物為主的非有意引進入侵物種的相關資料，從“首發地”（我國第一次發現的地點，first detection location，FDL）的角度分析了省級區域的分布規律。結果發現，入侵物種首發地數量在各省區間隨著對外商貿活動的不同而變化很大，沿海經濟發達省區入侵物種首發地明顯多於內陸省區。遼寧、北京、天津、河北、山東、江蘇、上海、浙江、福建、廣東、廣西和海南等12省區的土地麵積僅占全國的15.6%，而入侵物種首發地所占比例卻高達74.6%。各個省區的對外貿易額等作為“物種引入壓力”的指標，可以直接反映出入侵物種首發地數量的多少。

早期發現在入侵物種的防控中具有非常重要的意義。“首發地”新方法的使用，為國家監測機構確定新入侵物種最容易定居的地理位置、更及時有效地防控新的入侵物種提供了科學依據；同時，證實“物種引入壓力”是決定新引進物種首次發現地點最重要的因素之一，間接說明了經濟高速發展是造成外來物種入侵的重要原因。“首發地”方法不僅適用於中國的生物入侵防控，對其他國家也有重要參考價值。結果發表在2012年2月21日在線出版的PLoS ONE。該項研究得到國家自然科學基金項目、中科院重點項目和科技部項目的資助。論文第一作者黃頂成博士，目前在中國科學院研究生院國際合作處工作。
